History
This clinic has been providing safe and compassionate abortion services in Canada for over 40 years. In fact, abortions are possible (and legal) in this country because of the vision and dedication of Dr. Henry Morgentaler and his team. In a landmark 1988 ruling by the Canadian Supreme Court in R. v Morgentaler, all criminal laws governing the subject were struck down, and abortion was enshrined as a decision entirely up to the woman.
Virtually every abortion facility across the country is guided by the techniques and philosophies developed here.
And at the Toronto Abortion Clinic we also acknowledge the contributions of Dr. Ainsley Moore. Her advocacy towards issues of gender and racial equality, and her efforts to further care for women’s health and women’s rights, were exemplified as a practitioner and proprietor of Canada's largest independent Women's Clinics — including Mississauga Women's Clinic, Hamilton Women's Clinic, and the Canadian Women's Clinic.
Now operating under the Toronto Abortion Clinic, we here strive to grow their legacy; and to do so at all our associated Abortion Clinics.
We offer a wide range of abortion care and related services, including counselling, contraceptive education and testing for sexually transmitted infections (STIs); and we are dedicated to respecting your privacy, ensuring your safety, and providing you the best possible medical care.
Our clinics perform abortions for women who are approximately 5–19 weeks pregnant. If your pregnancy does not fall within those guidelines, we’ll do our best to help you find the proper resources or refer you to a facility that can accommodate your needs.
Dr. Dustin Costescu, MD, MS, FRCSC
Dr. Dustin Costescu is an obstetrician-gynaecologist and internationally recognized family planning specialist. He completed a fellowship in Contraception Advice, Research and Education from Queen’s University, and holds a Master of Healthcare Management from Johns Hopkins University. After ten years in one of the most diverse surgical practices in Ontario, Dr. Costescu is focusing his time, talents, and passion in family planning and sexual health in community practice. Dr. Costescu is now the Medical Director of the Toronto Abortion Clinic (formerly the Toronto Morgentaler Clinic), the Ottawa Abortion Clinic, and the Mississauga Women’s Clinic, building on the work he has completed to bring mifepristone to Canada. As a champion of comprehensive sexual and reproductive healthcare, Dustin is currently serving as Co-Chair of the SOGC Sexual Health and Reproductive Equity committee and is a lead author of several clinical practice guidelines in family planning. In 2023, he was appointed by Ontario Health as the Provincial Lead of the Ontario Cervical Screening Program and is playing a key role in the transition to HPV-based cervical screening. In 2024 Dr Costescu joined the Board of the Society of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists of Canada (SOGC).
